Guardian Pharmacy of Birmingham provides medications to outpatient consumers throughout Alabama. We are able to tailor our services to meet the needs of individual facilites. Some of the services we offer are shown below:

  • 24 hour on-call pharmacist and consultation services without computerized screening
  • Consultation and back-up procedures in effect should any medication issues aris after hours
  • No complicated computerized phone system to confuse clients or caregivers
  • Direct delivery to consumer’s medication administration location
  • In-stock medications align with Medicaid Formulary
  • Adequate maintenance of medication commonly prescribed
  • Temperature maintenance followed with injectable medications from pharmacy to end-user
  • Labeling medication with advanced descriptive pill identifier
  • Specialized packaging for clients with compliance concerns
  • FacilityLink secure internet based program
  • Electronic client medication charts including prescriptions and paperless faxing system
  • Delivery manifest containing a detailed inventory of all medications being delivered to the residential facility including each consumer name, medication, quantity and prescriber

Clozaril monitoring, dispensing, lab data collection

  • Orders are managed in accordance to Clozaril guidelines
  • Dispensing is managed in 7 day, 14 day or 28 day allowance
  • Labs are received and reviewed prior to dispensing
  • Clinical notifications are made if medication is to be held

Drug regimen review

  • Medication profile from all current physicians are reviewed at every dispensing point
  • Potential drug interactions are evaluated
  • Notifications are made to clinical staff and clients of potential interactions
  • Duplication therapy is reported to MD’s

Billing review

  • Itemized statements allow clients and caregivers the ability to see specific drug information, total cost, insurance payment and applicable co-pays
  • The billing team evaluates coverage by insurance
  • Contact is made as to continuation of dispensing if no coverage
  • If coverage for a medication is denied, the pharmacy contacts the individual as well as the healthcare staff so other options may be explored
  • Statements are mailed monthly to clients with self-addressed postage paid envelopes
  • Prior authorization data collection, completion, submission

Refill management

  • Medications are delivered to client 3 to7 days prior to the current prescription end date
  • Upon utilization of last refill, the pharmacy contacts the prescribing physician
  • If unable to obtain refill from physician, the healthcare provider and the client are notified

Cost management

  • Medications are reviewed regularly with regard to costs
  • If medication is costly due to falling off the Medicaid Formulary, notification is made to the prescribing physician for possible substitution
  • Clients and caregivers are notified of changes
